Luis Fernando is the son of Adolfo Garcia, both members of the resistance to the Pan American owned silver mine in their municipality at San Rafel Las Flores, southern Jalapa. They were part of a small precedent-setting group that had their case heard in the Supreme Court of Canada after they were attacked and shot by the mine's private
security firm. Several of the Garcias are now submitting coffees for export as well as working in a newly formed coffee QC lab near El Volcancito. Luis's brother Rolando is essentially managing the family farm and has been in charge of the new plantings that this lot is comprised of - while also juggling responsibilities at the lab. The renewed investment in the farm and the available feedback from the cupping/sampling has resulted in noticeable improvements in the coffees this year. This is a bucket fermented (anaerobic), fully washed lot of red and yellow caturra. Clean cups, clarity of expression/flavour and nice acidity. Filter.
